Overview

The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek is a spiritual and scenic journey to the source of the Ganges, through Gangotri National Park, glacier-fed rivers, and high-altitude meadows. Experience the sacred origin of the Ganga, panoramic views of Mt. Shivling, Bhagirathi peaks, and the serene Tapovan meadows. Ideal for spiritual seekers, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri (Drive – 268 km) – Scenic drive via Uttarkashi and Harsil Valley along the Bhagirathi River. Overnight in Gangotri (10,055 ft).
  • Day 2: Acclimatization Day in Gangotri – Explore Gangotri Temple, short hikes, and prepare for higher altitudes. Overnight in guesthouse.
  • Day 3: Gangotri to Bhojwasa (Trek – 14 km) – Trek along the Bhagirathi River, pass Chirbasa (pine forests), reach Bhojwasa (windy, cold plain). Camp overnight.
  • Day 4: Bhojwasa to Gaumukh to Tapovan (Trek – 9 km) – Visit Gaumukh Glacier (source of Ganga), ascend steeply to Tapovan. Camp overnight on alpine meadows.
  • Day 5: Explore Tapovan and Surroundings – Relax, meditate, photograph, and enjoy views of Meru Peak, Bhagirathi I, II, III, and Shivling.
  • Day 6: Tapovan to Bhojwasa (Return Trek) – Descend to Bhojwasa. Camp overnight.
  • Day 7: Bhojwasa to Gangotri (Trek) – Descend to Gangotri. Depart or stay overnight.
