Overview

According to Hindu mythology, Brahmatal Lake is the place where Lord Brahma meditated many years ago. It is nestling in the depths of Uttarakhand Himalayas. The trek to the Brahamatal Lake takes you on an epic journey through never-ending ridge lines, high altitude lakes, all dense bugyal, snow-covered peaks, and awe-inspiring views. There are many treks which can’t be done in January and February. Brahmatal Trek that way is a classic winter trek for that period. The trek is known for offering a huge amount of snow that makes a trek exciting. The views from the summit are even more captivating with majestic views of the mighty Himalayan ranges which provide many such excited as well as adventurous trekking trails, but this is probably the only trekking trail in the country where you could get a front-seat view of Himalayan peaks with Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti, bird’s eye view of the majestic Roopkund Lake and ample opportunities to capture the majestic snow-covered peak with their camera which rises above 7,000 meters. Brahmatal Trek is one of the best winter treks in the Himalayas.Best Time to Visit: Brahmatal Trek is best for all the year to visit. Best seasons include December to March, Expect hiking on the snow in the mid of December. During winters, Brahmatal covered in the thick blanket of snow ideal for skiers. Itinerary

Day 1Kathgodam – Lohajung (225 kms / 8-9 hours)

  • The pickup place is Dehradun railway station early in the morning.
  • The journey uphill from Dehradun to Lohajung will take you cruising through mountain alleyways connecting the lower Himalayan belt of Garhwal hills.
  • This is going to be a 10-hour drive, despite the marvelous changing vistas of the mountains.
  • For the first few hours, the course of our journey will run parallel to river Ganga and Alaknanda, flowing softly. Soon, a blustery Pindar river will meet our path.
  • Pick-up time is 06:00 am at the Dehradun railway station. The exact time will be updated by our Trek Leader.
  • Route: Dehradun – Rishikesh – Devprayag – Srinagar – Rudraprayag – Karnaprayag – Lohajung.

Day 2Lohajung – Bekaltal (6 kms)

  • Lohajung to Bekaltal Trek: 6 km | Stay: Camps.
  • We will start the trek after breakfast. The first day’s trek, spanning 5 hours, will kick off from Lohajung, following a snaky trail into the forest.
  • After a short while, the forest will give way to a small village named Mandoli to your left.
  • Take approximately an hour’s hike after crossing the last stream to reach the beautiful Bekaltal, gleaming peacefully in the summer while partially frozen over in the winters.

Day 3Bekaltal – Brahmatal (8 kms)

  • Bekaltal to Brahmatal Trek: 7 km | Stay: Camps.
  • Today’s trek will take you through thickets of oaks and rhododendrons over steep slopes for quite some time before finally coming out to a meadow.
  • This is the meadow of Telandi.
  • In the winter, you will find the green expanse of Telandi transformed into a vast snowfield, making the crossing a thrilling experience.

Day 4Brahmatal – Daldum via Brahmatal Peak (5 kms)

  • Brahmatal – Brahmatal Pass – Tilbudi Trek: 7 km | Stay: Camps.
  • Start your day early in the morning as you head towards Brahmatal Lake, an uphill climb.
  • You will be greeted with Oak and Rhododendron trees along the way, each with a charm of their own.
  • After a while, the zigzag ascent trail will take you to Brahmatal Lake.
  • After walking for a while and crossing the meadow, the final climb towards the pass begins.

Day 5Daldum – Lohajung (4 kms)

  • Tilbudi – Wan – Lohajung Trek: 4 km | Drive: 25 km.
  • After having your breakfast, you will start your descent to Wan, a trail filled with Oak and Rhododendron trees.
  • This is a very beautiful trail that allows you to capture countless scenic pictures.
  • After walking some distance, you will come across a water source at Chota Tilbudi.
  • Half an hour later, you will be able to spot Wan village visible below.
  • From Wan, we will take transport to reach Lohajung. Night stay in Lohajung.

Day 6Lohajung – Kathgodam.

  • Lohajung to Dehradun Drive: 296 km.
  • Departure from Lohajung after breakfast.
  • We will reach Dehradun in the evening.
  • Trekking services will end here.
